MANAGEMENT

6 ECTS credits

This is the first management course in the DIU curriculum.  Whether they are businesses or non-profits, governments or NGO’s, all organizations must be managed in order to function effectively.  This course is organized around the four functions of management.

  1. Planning.  Identifying goals and resources or future organizational performance.
  2. Organizing. Assigning tasks, delegating authority and allocating resources.
  3. Leading. The use of influence to motivate employees to achieve goals.
  4. Controlling. Monitoring activities and taking corrective action when needed.

The goal of the course is to give students a broad view of management and present these different management functions, theories and practices.  Though the primary level of analysis will be the organization, the course will analyze the impact of the global, industry, and national environments on an organization’s performance.  Students will learn tools from the fields of strategy, organizational behavior, entrepreneurship, international management and human resources management.
