INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION
6 ECTS credits
This course will explore the institutional structures, political processes, and impact of international organisations within the larger context of word politics. The course will present an overview of the historical antecedents and trends in growth of international organisations, discuss the various theories and concepts used to study international organisations, and will introduce students to specific international organisations, including global institutions (the UN), treaty-based institutions (NATO), regional institutions (the European Union), and functional organisations (the World Trade Organisation, the International Monetary Fund, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development). The course will then consider whether and how these organisations are responding to and meeting the challenges posed by the modern world, including the end of the Cold War and globalisation.
