The objectives of this course are to understand the theoretical underpinnings of rhetoric; to understand and demonstrate principles of public speaking; to recognize the ethical responsibilities involved in decisions to speak; to learn the importance of building a positive communication environment; to analyze particular audiences for the purpose of adapting topic, message and presentation; to learn how to select and research purposeful speech topics; to analyze and apply principles of speech structure to oral presentation; to utilize resources for supporting materials; to express ideas through effective use of language in oral presentation; to identify, practice and apply presentation skills to a variety of speaking situations; to be able to listen critically to oral presentations.
