The main goal of this course is to develop students' skills in theoretical basis of rhetoric, which is basically a philosophical subject. Even in the early phase of development of rhetorical tradition, it became obvious that rhetorical problems are in direct connection with philosophical theories, ethical values and theories of truth. The lectures are designed to show in which way these theories determine practical rhetoric, especially political rhetoric and influence of sophists, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle and contemporary rhetorical thinkers on this topic. Another aim is to reflect the relation between ethics and rhetoric, some aspects of theory of knowledge and rhetoric, as well as philosophical anthropology and rhetoric.
