INTRODUCTION TO INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
6 ECTS credits
This course serves as a broad introduction to the models and methods of modern international relations. It offers an overview of the major theories and concepts of international politics, and presents students with an opportunity to understand the key characteristics of each theory and critically assess the debates between them. The course will principally concentrate on theories aimed at answering the most pressing issues in international affairs; such as the internal and international conflict, the prospects for international cooperation, the role of international institutions, the emergence of globalization and an international economic order, and the future of the global system. Furthermore, the course will provide empirical evidence for the application of each theory through the study of the chief international events of the twentieth century, starting with WWI, and continuing through the aftermath of September 11th.
