INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS
6 ECTS credits
This course will explore the institutional structures, political processes, and impact of international organizations within the larger context of word politics. The course will present an overview of the historical antecedents and trends in growth of international organizations, discuss the various theories and concepts used to study international organizations, and will introduce students to specific international organizations, including global institutions (the UN), treaty-based institutions (NATO), regional institutions (the European Union), and functional organizations (the World Trade Organization, the International Monetary Fund, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development). The course will then consider whether and how these organizations are responding to and meeting the challenges posed by the modern world, including the end of the Cold War and globalization.
