THE RISE AND FALL OF FORMER YUGOSLAVIA

This course will comprise a historical and theoretical consideration of the rise and fall of former Yugoslavia. The first part of the course will examine the history of the “first” and “second” Yugoslavia, with particular attention paid to the evolution of its internal structure, relations between its constituents, relations with the world-at-large, and the leadership of Josip Broz Tito. The second part of the course will offer a thorough examination of the course and causes of the disintegration of Yugoslavia, including the role played by nationalism, ethnic differences, and individual leaders and policy-makers.
