INTRODUCTION TO CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY

6 ECTS credits

The course is designed as an introduction presenting central problems, theories, methods and research in the field of cultural anthropology. Students will be introduced to the principal anthropologists and their ethnographies (European and non-European) which have had an important role in the development of cultural anthropology. Cultural anthropology defined as a discipline that provides insight into human diversity (Kottak) or as a discipline whose purpose is to understand and appreciate diversity among humans (Benedict) is essential to all professions that include cross-cultural and intercultural projects. The discipline is also important in order for Croatian cultural identity and its integration in the European identities to be understood.
