In order to help ambitious students who would like to continue their education at a higher level, the city of Dubrovnik has created a new model of financing higher education. This model of financing motivates students to achieve good academic results and at the same time helps them to acquire the academic experience under global standards.
In cooperation with Zagrebacka Banka, the city of Dubrovnik has created a model that will help students who wish to study in Croatia or at any other foreign university. Students can get a loan for living expenses and/or for tuition costs. During their studies, the city of Dubrovnik has agreed to subsidize the interest rate for:

• students who have achieved excellent academic results during their studies,
• students who chose to pursue the majors that are in deficit,
• students who demonstrate financial need.

With this model, the student is responsible to start repaying the loan ONE YEAR AFTER graduation. Therefore, during his/her studies, the student is free of all financial obligations towards the bank.
This model creates an equal opportunity for all young people eager to develop themselves in an academic and personal sense, regardless of their financial background. In addition, it gives students an opportunity to become independent right from the beginning of their studies. The Mayor of the city of Dubrovnik would like to expand this model to the whole Republic of Croatia since well educated, young people are the foundation stone of a successful nation.
