Academics

Dubrovnik International University has a strong and demonstrated commitment to academic excellence. Achieving and sustaining distinction in all aspects of our curriculum, programs, administration and research is at the heart of DIU’s mission.

Dubrovnik International University is a community devoted to learning. We actively seek students, faculty, and staff who demonstrate exceptional ability and promise who share in our commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship, and who will bring a diversity of viewpoints and cultures. As a community, we respect the dignity, individuality, and freedom of each member. At the same time, we strive to be a place where individuals and groups learn with and from each other. We aim to foster a sense of shared experience and common purpose, along with a collective responsibility for each other’s well-being and for the well-being of the University as a whole.

An individualized approach to academic work, both within the classroom and in independent study, is a hallmark of DIU programs and is ensured through small classes, significant faculty-student interaction, mentorship relationships and active student engagement in course activities and seminar discussions. DIU programs allow students to study with distinguished and renowned faculty from Croatia and abroad, and enable contact with experts and organizations associated with the international relations and international business communities.

DIU programs have a strong emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach, and flexibility is stressed. Students have an opportunity to tailor their studies to match personal interests in the sphere of international relations and diplomacy and international business, and are able to approach the areas they are particularly interested in from different perspectives. According to contemporary teaching standards, DIU students assume an active role in the education process. The traditional lecture approach is minimized. Instead, the DIU curriculum demands discussion groups, student presentations and writing assignments. Students are pushed to build skills in formulating opinions and argumentation while developing critical reasoning and evaluation of particular theories, opinions or beliefs.

All students are assigned student advisors upon entering the University, and academic advisors at the start of their second year. These individuals regularly meet with students to track their progress at DIU, provide assistance and guidance in all academic matters, and continue to follow and nurture the student’s interests and aspirations throughout their professional and academic lives.
